Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech Table. I’m Justin.

Diana: And I’m Diana.

Justin: And we’re you’re hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech.

Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest.

Justin: It’s Wednesday Diana.

Diana: I like Wednesday okay, how about you?

Justin: Oh Wednesday is good. You know, it’s usually a nice, pleasant day for me with my workflow. It’s just nice I get to spend a lot of time working. Some days I jump back and forth between different jobs, different businesses, but on Wednesdays things move smooth so I’m always happy to see Wednesday roll around and today we’re going to talk about a web theme like we always do on Wednesdays.

Diana: yes.

Justin: And it is 5by.com.

Diana: Yes, now that is the number five.

Justin: Yes, the digit.

Diana: And then by.com.

Justin: That’s right. Which is the video concierge. Yes, the word concierge, that’s a fun one.

Diana: Fancy.

Justin: It is. What does concierge mean?

Diana: Well I think it ‘s just a concierge or a service that provides you with taking care of your needs.

Justin: Right, exactly.

Diana: So, so what 5by does is it brings together the best videos on the web and delivers them to you as effortlessly as possible.

Justin: Now that’s interesting, so whether it’s a viral video of a waffle falling over or an incredible minute animated short film, 5by gathers the best videos so you don’t have to waste any time.

Diana: Right. Who wants to waste time?

Justin: I know whether you want to see this waffle falling over or an incredible animated short.

Diana: That sounds like a really productive video.

Justin: That does, so it brings these things to, I’m so confused. It just brings these things to you?

Diana: Yeah, yeah. So it get’s it’s name from a derivative of an old military expression five by five which referred to a radio’s signal strength and clarity. If you were communicating by a radio and said you were five by five you had perfect signal strength and perfect clarity so 5by is aiming to bring perfect to video.

Justin: Well that’s great, so finding videos on 5by.com is really simple. You simply select your mood or preference and make one of the category selections and then videos will start streaming one after another.

Diana: One after another.

Justin: It almost takes the fun out of it thought doesn’t it?

Diana: Does it?

Justin: Isn’t it fun just searching like whatever pops into your head, I just search it on YouTube and then I get a video.

Diana: Well here’s the thing. On YouTube for instance you search for, you know, one thing and you’re watching the waffle falling over and then it gives you all these suggestions on the sidebar anyway.

Justin: Right.

Diana: That it’s basically like this just bringing you the next one.

Justin: Well right.

Diana: You’re not searching for those suggestions, they’re just there.

Justin: No, but they’re based on your previous viewing habits.

Diana: Yeah, which this probably is too as it goes off your mood and your preference.

Justin: Well I know, I just, the idea here though is that they’re selected by actual people, the staff of 5by.com and then tend to be of higher quality than random videos on YouTube.

Diana: Each video you watch you can like or dislike and the concierge learns from your preferences and tries to deliver more videos that you will like.

Justin: Absolutely, absolutely. This could be a fun thing to try out and I think, you know, if you have time to, you know, look at videos on the internet and this is something that you want to do, then try 5by.com.

Diana: Yes.

Justin: There’s an app for smartphones too.

Diana: Yes.

Justin: Sounds great. Until next time.

Diana: Take care.

Justin: Tech Table is brought to you by MPA of Bloomfield, Iowa and God’s Country Radio. You can visit us online at AskMPA.com.

Diana: If you have questions or comments, please send them to: questions@askMPA.com. That’s questions@askMPA.com.

Justin: And thanks for listening.
