June 23, 2014

Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech Table. I’m Justin.

Diana: And I’m Diana.

Justin: And we’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech.

Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest.

Justin: It is Monday, Diana.

Diana: It’s Monday. I’m dragging a little bit. We had a big weekend.

Justin: We had a huge weekend, and it was a lot of fun. Got a lot of things done.

Diana: Had some fun, too.

Justin: Absolutely. We hope you guys out there in radio land had a good time, too. So, it’s Mail Monday, where we go into our email inbox, and that address, if you want to send us questions, is…

Diana: questions@askmpa.com.

Justin: That’s right. Now, today’s question comes from Lana.

Diana: Yes.

Justin: Lana called the other day, though, she actually phoned in her question.

Diana: Yeah, you can email those questions, you can call them in, you can send them on Facebook, however you want.

Justin: Exactly. So, she says, “I want to buy some accessories for my daughter’s iPhone. What are the coolest things out there? It’s a big birthday milestone, so feel free to tell me about things in all price ranges.” That’s exciting, right there.

Diana: Oh, yes, because they sure do come in all different price ranges, don’t they?

Justin: Absolutely. So, some of the top iPhone gift ideas are special headphones.

Diana: Yes.

Justin: Many are currently liking the Beats by Dr. Dre.

Diana: I’ve seen those. I have not tried them. I heard they are good, but honestly, you could spend the same amount of money on some lesser well-known brand, or not this Beats by Dre.

Justin: Well, of course, Sony makes some good headphones in that same price range.

Diana: Yes. But these look really cool, too.

Justin: But the thing about Beats is they look cool. And, obviously, if you’re an iPhone user, you’re into looking cool.

Diana: It’s true.

Justin: And being up on your technology.

Diana: It’s true.

Justin: So, you might want the Beats headphones by Dr. Dre. I think they run around $300.00 or so.

Diana: Yeah, I know they’re in the several hundred dollar price range, for sure.

Justin: They have a lot of options and things, I know.

Diana: Lots of different colors. Sometimes you can even get exclusive designs.

Justin: Absolutely. Absolutely. You can also get a case, which also holds your credit card and ID.

Diana: Yes, and I know Donny has this, and I believe Jody likes these for her phones, too. It’s essentially a wallet that keeps your phone safe, as well as any, you know, money or credit card, ID, anything like that.

Justin: Yeah, exactly, which keeps everything all together.

Diana: It’s all together. You just grab that and go.

Justin: Yeah, absolutely, so that’s good. So, you either lose everything or nothing.

Diana: This is true.

Justin: Absolutely.

Diana: Yeah, now, another really great idea is an external charger. Smartphones are known for draining their batteries quickly.

Justin: Yes.

Diana: So, now there are devices out there that are even small enough, you can store them in your purse or your pocket, and they will charge your phone on the go.

Justin: Yeah, that’s really great. There are also solar chargers out there that will actually charge your phone.

Diana: Wow. I need to look into that. That’s awesome.

Justin: In sunlight, which is cool. Yeah, all right, and of course, Bluetooth headsets. You know, if you spend a lot of time talking on the phone, then a headset.

Diana: Wait a minute. People talk on their phone?

Justin: They do, they still talk on their phone.

Diana: Are you sure?

Justin: A headset might be just perfect, and Jawbone is a company that makes one that’s really amazing sound quality and it also has a great, beautiful aesthetic appeal. So, it looks good, too.

Diana: That’s important. I like that.

Justin: That’s by Jawbone. They do a lot of things with acoustic things for your phone, so sound. Yep.

Diana: Yes, and then, finally, you could look into a docking station. Apple and other companies makes…

Justin: Yeah, you know, it’s really interesting. They have a lot of different devices that Apple makes that you can plug your phone in and it acts as a charger, and a stereo, and an alarm clock. I remember, you know…

Diana: We have that. We have one.

Justin: Yeah, you know, we have one, and we found them first in hotels.

Diana: Yes.

Justin: You know, you go to a hotel and you have, like, an iHome thing, things like that. It charges your phone while you listen to music and it’s also an alarm clock.

Diana: Yep.

Justin: So, lots of options there. All great ideas. So send your questions into…

Diana: questions@askmpa.com.

Justin: That’s right. Until next time…

Diana: Take care.

Justin: Tech Table is brought to you by MPA of Bloomfield, Iowa, and God’s Country Radio. You can visit us online at AskMPA.com.
