Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech Table. I’m Justin.
Diana: And I’m Diana.
Justin: And we’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech.
Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest. Well, hi there, Justin.
Justin: Hello, Diana.
Diana: It is Wednesday.
Justin: Even though it’s Wednesday on the Tech Table and we’re going to talk about some web…
Diana: The web.
Justin: Web tips today.
Diana: Yes. Well, we all use… I guess I shouldn’t say we all use the web.
Justin: Right.
Diana: But most of us.
Justin: I just talked to someone on the phone yesterday that said to me, “I have a computer that’s about 10 years old and sometimes it just doesn’t work. I don’t even know what the web is.”
Diana: Okay, see…
Justin: So it does happen that people… Some people are not on the web.
Diana: That’s true. And that’s okay.
Justin: Absolutely. There are days I wish I wasn’t on the web.
Diana: I know.
Justin: Life was so much simpler before.
Diana: Wasn’t it?
Justin: Yeah. In some ways. In some ways it’s highly convenient. It depends on your perspective. So, we have some tips to make the web easier.
Diana: Yeah, just some general tips here. Some of these you might be really, really interested in. Shortcut to a website: Any website you can get a shortcut to. Here’s how you do it. Type the name into the URL bar at the top of the web page, hold down the control key, and press enter. The www and the dot com of that web address will automatically be added to whatever you typed.
Justin: That’s interesting. I had no idea.
Diana: So, if you know it’s www dot google dot come you actually could just go type in google up at the top, hold down control and enter, and then it will at the rest of it in there.
Justin: Very cool. Very interesting. How to do a reverse image search. What is a reverse image search? I don’t even know.
Diana: Well, let’s say you see a picture somewhere, you might recognize the person but you don’t know where from as far as a celebrity or something. You’re like I can’t put my finger on that. So, what you’re going to do is you have to be in Google Chrome. You use Google Chrome as your browser, which we recommend anyway. Hold down the S key and right click on the picture. Right click, okay?
Justin: Yes, right click.
Diana: Hold down the S as in snake and right click.
Justin: Right click on the picture and then it will do a search. It will search the web for that image.
Diana: For that image, mm-hm.
Justin: Just like that.
Diana: Just like that.
Justin: Wow. Interesting.
Diana: Yeah. Some things will pop up and say, “Oh, well, that’s so and so.”
Justin: Right because everything is stored. It’s all out there.
Diana: Yes. Mm-hm. Let’s see what’s next. A quick web search, just a real quick one if you want to do. Hold down the control key and click L while in the web browser. The URL bar will be highlighted, type your search term, and hit enter. It’s just like a keyboard command rather than using your mouse.
Justin: Sure. Sure.
Diana: Then if you’re on a Mac use the command plus L instead of control plus L.
Justin: Right. That makes sense.
Diana: Yeah. I actually just saw recently a whole list of Twitter keyboard commands. When you’re in Twitter itself, there’s like a list of 25 or 30.
Justin: Pretty much all programs have these or all applications or all whatever.
Diana: You just become more familiar with them.
Justin: Yeah, you just become more familiar.
Diana: You can navigate very quickly just using the keyboard. I remember back in the day we didn’t have a mouse hooked up to my first computer. We used all keyboard commands.
Justin: Right. This is a handy little thing. If you Google a UPS tracking number if you’re looking for tracking, just Google the tracking number and it will take you right to the tracking results.
Diana: Yeah, you don’t have to go to UPS first.
Justin: You don’t have to go to UPS.com and go through which country are in and all of that. You just literally put the tracking number up there, which you probably copied and pasted from the shipping information, and there you go. It will show it to you.
