Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech Table. I’m Justin.
Diana: And I’m Diana.
Justin: And We’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech.
Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest.
Justin: It’s Thursday at the Tech Table.
Diana: That’s right, we talk about different themes on Thursday.
Justin: We do, what’s our theme for today?
Diana: Let’s see we’re going to do some Mobile Madness.
Justin: Mobile Madness.
Diana: Yes, what do you do with your smartphone?
Justin: Oh my goodness.
Diana: And you said how many smartphones do you have?
Justin: Well I have two.
Diana: I do too.
Justin: I don’t really talk on either one of them though, that’s the ironic part.
Diana: Didn’t you ask me how to make a phone call a few months ago?
Justin: I did. I’ve had an iPhone for almost a year and I realized I really hadn’t made maybe two or three phone calls on it.
Diana: Right, well, it was different from my iPhone, I have a different model and so I had to then look at yours and it took me a few minutes to figure out how to make a call.
Justin: My new iPhone, I should be getting it today.
Diana: It’s coming?
Justin: Yes, the 5S, I am getting the gold one.
Diana: Gold.
Justin: It’s very exciting.
Diana: Nice.
Justin: I know. Anyway, so you can do a ton of things and least of which is actually make a phone call. Who cares about that? You take pictures, you record video, you can use location based reminders so when you walk into the grocery store it will actually tell you to pick up a gallon of milk.
Diana: That’s amazing.
Justin: Yeah, you can record audio notes if you’re a little forgetful instead of using 1,000 post-its, you know? You can record audio notes, I mean you use GPS to get voice directions to locations.
Diana: Yes, yes.
Justin: What else, Diana?
Diana: Keep track of your parked car. I know a lot of us forget where we parked. You can actually make, you know, just make a note in there or you can use an app to find it again. Take credit card payments at your garage sale, this is an amazing, amazing thing.
Justin: That’s an amazing thing.
Diana: Or if you’re a business owner you can use devices to take credit card numbers on your phone.
Justin: I might have changed my mind about having garage sales. I always thought that was kind of a big pain.
Diana: That’s true.
Justin: But maybe if we can take credit card payments we’re going to have more garage sales.
Diana: You can keep up with all your social media world accounts.
Justin: Yup, Facebook and Twitter and Flickr and Instagram and.
Diana: FourSquare.
Justin: Oh my goodness, the list goes on and one, but yes.
Diana: LinkedIn. Play games.
Justin: You can play games, which you like to do. What do you play?
Diana: Yeah, sure, oh I’m a big fan of Angry Birds, Words with Friends.
Justin: Yup, right.
Diana: Oh, sudoku.
Justin: Sudoku.
Diana: Yes, I love Sudoku
Justin: Absolutely. Yeah, there are a lot of great games.
Diana: Another thing I use my phone everyday for is to wake up. I have an alarm clock on there and I can set lots of different alarms throughout the day, but I have one that’s set for each day to wake me up at 5:35.
Justin: Yeah, that’s very charming. I also wake up with your alarm usually.
Diana: You do, you do.
Justin: That’s very charming, yup. It’s nice. You can record athletic activities, so you can keep a log of your run, you can do that also with your calorie counting and all of that.
Diana: You can go geocaching, thats a big trend right now.
Justin: What’s geocaching?
Diana: Oh, it’s this thing where you go around, you get GPS coordinates I guess to find things and they’re just random little things that people place all over the country.
Justin: That’s interesting.
Diana: And there’s a log that you can look and find these geocache locations and go search them out and then you can leave things there too for people to find and you don’t usually take things, sometimes.
Justin: You just find them and.
Diana: Yeah, and make a report of it.
Justin: Oh that’s cool. Very cool.
Diana: I think sometimes people switch them out though with other things
Justin: Right. And then there’s the more traditional things that you do with your smart phone, send and receive emails, send text messages, read the news, read a book, listen to music.
Diana: Listen to a book.
Justin: Listen to a book, watch TV.
Diana: Watch a movie.
Justin: That’s right and you can shop, absolutely. So all those things you can do with your smartphone so have a good time exploring some things maybe you haven’t done before. And until next time.
