Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech Table. I’m Justin.

Diana: And I’m Diana.

Justin: And we’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech.

Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest. Well, hi Justin.

Justin: Ugh, it’s Monday.

Diana: That’s right.

Justin: Stretch, yawn, wake up. Alright, so you know, Monday, interesting thing about Monday, I usually have to have a lot of coffee on Monday. But that actually doesn’t work because what I actually have to do to wake up on Monday is get on the treadmill. That’s really what does it for me.

Diana: You are a runner.

Justin: So, if you have a problem waking up on Monday, maybe you need to stop drinking coffee and get on the treadmill. That’s my words of advice.

Diana: Get a workout.

Justin: I always tell people that and it really irritates some people, you know, oh, it’s Monday and they’re complaining and I say, you know, get on the treadmill! You might feel better. Or just go for a run. Sometimes it’s a little cold in Iowa to go outside.

Diana: Well, you can layer.

Justin: That’s true. So, Monday’s Mail Day.

Diana: Yes, mail time!

Justin: And what’s our email address?

Diana: It’s questions@askmpa.com.

Justin: Exactly, so if you have a question, feel free to send one in to that email address. Today, Lynn sent us a question and she was asking about Windows 8, and she had a lot of questions.

Diana: Oh, Windows 8.

Justin: Windows 8, a lot of people really aren’t very happy about that, but you know, you can do it, you can manage, and it’s actually a good product.

Diana: Yes.

Justin: One of her questions was, “I seem to get stuck a lot. Is there an easy way for me to just get to the Internet?”

Diana: She wants an easy way.

Justin: Right, an easy way. So, the Windows 8 key is located to the left of the spacebar. The Windows 8 key is located to the left of the spacebar, and I say that again. If you ever find yourself stuck in an application or something and not sure how to get out of it, press that button.

Diana: So, it’s like an easy button.

Justin: Right, it’s like the Staples easy button.

Diana: Right.

Justin: And that’s actually how our our tech guys explain it in the office. So, find that Windows 8 key to the left of the spacebar, and just hit that and you will get back to-

Diana: Is it the Start screen?

Justin: Yeah. Anything else about that to answer Lynn’s question?

Diana: Well, once you get to that Start screen, you can go to whatever app you want to or whatever icon you want to open, and your Internet icon should be there.

Justin: So, yeah, you hit that key. You’re going to get back to the Start screen where all of your apps are and you can hit the Internet icon or go to your desktop or whatever you want.

Diana: Yeah, whatever you want to do from there.

Justin: So, basically, the Windows 8 key is vital to know if you get lost. Just hit that, you’ll get back to the Start screen, and then you can start all over again, basically.

Diana: Yeah.

Justin: So, another thing that Lynn asked about was in regards to her Internet. Evidently, her son had set up her computer to automatically connect to her hot spot when she turned it on. However, that stopped working, and in her case, airplane mode got turned on.

Diana: Oh, that’s not good.

Justin: Nope, that’s not good. So, if that ever happens to you, try disabling that by going to the Charm Bar.

Diana: Oh, right, and that’s what opens on the right side of the screen.

Justin: Right. So, you hit settings, then your wireless button, and then an on/off switch appears, and you can turn it off, and then it should work again.

Diana: Yes.

Justin: That’s a little complicated.

Diana: A little bit but hover on that Charm Bar, and usually then it becomes apparent, you know, what you should do from there.

Justin: Right, it’s really interesting, and generally, if you have more questions, you can always call your local tech place, which I always say call MPA or, again, send us an email: questions@askmpa.com. That’s right, and I sometimes email myself with questions.

Diana: Do you answer it then, too?

Justin: No, I’m just kidding.

Diana: Okay, I was going to say, that might be something to check out.

Justin: Sometimes I go a little overboard. No, anyway, questions@askmpa.com, and we’ll maybe answer it on the air.

Diana: Alright.

Justin: Alright, until next time.

Diana: Take care.

Justin: Tech Table is brought to you by MPA of Bloomfield, Iowa, and God’s Country Radio. You can visit us online at AskMPA.com.

Diana: If you have questions or comments, please send them to questions@askmpa.com. That’s questions@askmpa.com.

Justin: And thanks for listening.
