Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech Table. I’m Justin.

Diana: And I’m Diana.

Justin: And we’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech.

Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest.

Justin: Well that really caught me by surprise, it’s fun day.

Diana: [LAUGHS] Yes, yes, I wasn’t quite sure we were rolling yet.

Justin: I know. Well, you know, sometimes you just gotta just get up and go.

Diana: Just vroom, vroom, huh?

Justin: Yes, vroom, vroom.

Diana: [LAUGHS].

Justin: That’s good, I like that. It’s one of those action words…those cartoon action words.

Diana: Yeah.

Justin: Alright, so it is Mail Monday, and you can send us questions to…

Diana: questions@askmpa.com.

Justin: That’s right, and today we’re going to look at a question from Brandy.

Diana: Yes, Brandy would like to know, what kinds of Apple devices are available waterproof?

Justin: That’s very interesting, and it’s a good question, but we don’t have the best answer for that, unfortunately. But that’s worth discussing.

Diana: Yeah, I mean, there is definitely some discussion we can have on this…

Justin: Right.

Diana: But, you know, the whole waterproof thing is, you know…we get leery about saying something is full-on waterproof.

Justin: Well right, because they are moisture resistant…

Diana: Yes.

Justin: …or moisture tolerant, but they’re not actually water proof. You know, and that’s the thing…I’ve even found that about watches. You know I’m old fashioned, I like to wear a watch, but I’ve found, you know, different watch brands, you know, they say they are water proof, but they’re not really, they’re water resistant to a certain depth or a certain level, or a certain time period even.

Diana: Right.

Justin: So many devices these days are meant to tolerate moisture in various forms, whether that be sweat, water or liquids of other kinds.

Diana: Yeah, however, you still should take care as to not fully submerge those devices.

Justin: That’s right. And you know, that being said, let’s say you are poolside with your phone, say watching your kids enjoy playing with friends and splashing around. It’s more and more common, and wanted, among users these days, and necessary, that your phone or your device be waterproof.

Diana: Right, we’re so…we’re so connected to our phones that we need to have those devices with us a lot of times.

Justin: Exactly, exactly. Now the best thing that you can get if you want to be able to have your device tolerate water is a special case. I know cases are bulky, but they offer support in features to be able to handle any kind of weather.

Diana: Yeah, yeah, and speaking of features, I mean, sometimes it’s handy to have a case because it helps you actually hold on to your device.

Justin: Right.

Diana: Or stand it up, sit it up, swivel it. So, you know, those cases can be helpful in other ways as well.

Justin: Right, and so, you know, you’ve gotta make sure that your case is the right size and shape, because gaps and crevices and things will allow moisture in and you’ll have trouble.

Diana: You’ll have trouble!

Justin: That’s right. So, what do these cases run? These moisture resistant or moisture tolerant cases. Well, some shopping online brings up some options that are nearly $100 for the iPhone 5s.

Diana: Yeah, now that sounds like a lot.

Justin: Right.

Diana: But when you’re talking about protecting something as important to you as your phone, it’s really somewhat of an investment.

Justin: That’s right. You know, and you can get iPad covers as well that will cost you over $100.

Diana: Yeah.

Justin: So you know, Apple…and I think their technology will get better when it comes to being moisture resistant.

Diana: Yes, but I don’t know that we’ll ever be…

Justin: Completely waterproof.

Diana: Yeah.

Justin: I don’t know, we might be. You might be able to…you might be able to dive into the ocean and take your phone with you.

Diana: Well it’ll be exciting to see what the future brings that way.

Justin: Take video, who knows. So, you know, always consider other accessories too; waterproof speakers and Bluetooth headsets. I mean, all those kinds of things do…there are some waterproof things out there.

Diana: Yeah.

Justin: Send your questions to…

Diana: questions@askmpa.com.

Justin: Until next time…

Diana: Take care.

Justin: Tech Table is brought to you by MPA of Bloomfield, Iowa, and God’s Country Radio. You can visit us online at askmpa.com.

Diana: If you have questions or comments, please send them to questions@askmpa.com. That’s questions@askmpa.com.

Justin: And thanks for listening!
