It’s The Great Pumpkin!

October 31, 2013

Moiré was on an important quest. He proudly shares his tale:

I believe in THE GREAT PUMPKIN.  It’s true… this slightly sarcastic kitty does believe. As of late, I’ve been getting a bit of flack from several of my peers around the office regarding my belief in this fantastical being. You know the one, right? I’m sure you’ve heard of the famous Charlie Brown special where Linus is waiting for The Great Pumpkin to appear and bring presents to only the ‘most sincere’ pumpkin patch? How could you not believe?
Well, given the amount of difficulty I’ve had from my peers at MPA, I decided to see what kind of support I would get from my knee-high fans. Indeed, the pint-sized generation agrees with your precious feline. The Great Pumpkin does exist. So now I must prove it.

I decided, first, to venture to our local pumpkin expert, Dave D. Dave grows some BIG pumpkins. I figured if we simply got a picture of a large pumpkin, that would help my case. (After all, these unimaginative adults probably don’t get out much.) Indeed, Dave was able to help me out. I quickly found myself in the middle of a pumpkin patch getting a picture taken with one amazingly large pumpkin. Surely this would convince them!

I then used SKYPE to connect via video with an old history professor acquaintance of mine. History, you see, is considered to be factual (most of the time). My point is, he would surely agree that if Santa Claus really does exist, then why not our Great Pumpkin? After two hours of chat regarding the historical figure known as Saint Nicholas, my historically astute friend came to this conclusion: “Most of our present-day fanciful figures are based, at least in part, on historical fact.” There you have it! Historically speaking, The Great Pumpkin surely does exist!

Next, I figured getting the view from a member of the clergy would seal the deal. Surely no one could argue with a person ‘of the cloth’! I called a dear friend and retired minister who agreed to meet with me over a pumpkin latte. After asking me several odd questions regarding my mental health, he responded that believing in anything requires faith of the unseen, and that, while he couldn’t say for certain The Great Pumpkin does exist, he did say that no one would know without the faith TO SEE. Interesting.

Clearly this is the problem for my peers at MPA. They must have faith that The Great Pumpkin exists in order to ALLOW him to exist! I get it now. My knee-high readers have this belief! They are not yet jaded by this sometimes ugly, grown-up world. Perhaps we can take a lesson from them and embrace a more child-like faith! While sometimes seeing might help us to believe, conversely, believing might help us to see!

Until next time, enjoy a warm pumpkin-flavored coffee drink while you sit out in your pumpkin patch tonight waiting for THE GREAT PUMPKIN.  I’m convinced now, more than ever, that he really does exist!

Fondest Regards,

MOIRE
