A question came in from Burt. He asked, “I drive for a living. A LOT. What kind of technology device(s) would you recommend so that I can stay in contact with the world, yet stay safe while driving?”

Here’s my response to him:

Technology is more and more mobile. As someone who does lots of driving, things you should have (and possibly even MUST have) include:

  • Bluetooth headset (for hands-free calling)
  • Phone/tablet dock  This is something that sometimes suctions to a windshield or driveshaft area depending on your vehicle. It lets you have a HUD (heads up display) on whichever device you want to use. Reasons you might want this: alerts/clocks/maps/weather, etc.
  • Power converter  Lets face it, our devices are limited by two things – Internet and Power. If we have those, we have the world. So get a power pack /external battery charger / AC Converter – something that lets you keep your devices on!
  • Mobile hotspot  This is something you need to get through a phone company. If you have a hotspot, you have Internet (provided you have reception).

At the very least, I suggest a bluetooth headset and an iPad (or some sort of tablet). If a tablet isn’t enough (say you need hard-core computing capabilities), better take a laptop.

Bonus accessory for those on the go: Wireless printer!
