I Still Have an XP Computer. Is There Any Hope For It?

August 8, 2014

People frequently ask us what can they do to either speed up or protect their XP computers since they are now no longer supported by Microsoft. Now, we realize it is hard to accept, but since XP came out fourteen years ago, it’s only natural that Microsoft move on. There will never again be any real protection for the XP operating system. Also important to note, is that  – since the hardware is also much older – there is no hardware you can add to make them faster either.

Another question we’re often asked regarding XP systems is “So, is my computer worth anything?” See, many of you paid somewhere in the $1,000-1500 range for the system back when it came out. Fortunately, technology has advanced to the point where we can produce new computers much cheaper, therefore new systems are not nearly as pricey. Unfortunately, since the hardware is so outdated and can’t be used, the systems are not worth anything and you will not likely having any luck trying to sell them.

Think back to the Sony Walkman….remember when those were first introduced in 1979, they could cost upwards of $200 – and only capable of playing enough songs that your cassette tape could hold (about 12-20). Nowadays, you can get a 2GB iPod Shuffle (Apple’s basic model) for just $49 – and many other brand options for less than that – this can hold, literally, hundreds of songs!

Moral of the story is: technology changes. XP is quickly becoming a thing of the past, so you might as well accept it and move on.
