Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech Table. I’m Justin.

Diana: And I’m Diana.

Justin: And we’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech.

Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest.

Diana: Alright, it is Tuesday, Justin.

Justin: It’s Tuesday on the Tech Table, which means we talk about tech on the Tech Table on Tuesday.

Diana: Tech Tips on Tuesday.

Justin: That’s right. So, today we’re gonna be talking about something we’ve talked about a little bit before.

Diana: Yes.

Justin: But it always bears repeating and bringing up again. Cleaning your devices.

Diana: Mm-hm, nobody likes a dusty computer screen.

Justin: No, and you don’t realize how dusty and dirty these things get sometimes, either.

Diana: It’s true.

Justin: So the proper care and cleaning of your device is very important. You know, and that will help it to work better and have a longer life, and that’s exactly what I have learned, because I have had very dirty computers before.

Diana: [LAUGHS]

Justin: Just, you know, sitting on the floor, the tower, you know, with the desktop. And just the fan…it just gets filthy.

Diana: Yeah, it does.

Justin: Yeah, so getting it cleaned up will really improve its lifespan.

Diana: Yeah, so here are some tips from our tech team.

Justin: Oh my goodness, some tips…

Diana: To take care. [LAUGHS].

Justin: …from our tech team to take care of the things.

Diana: Yeah, and they are sometimes high-priced, very valuable items to us.

Justin: They are, so we aught to take good care of them.

Diana: We should take care of them.

Justin: Yep, absolutely. I always say this is like servicing a car.

Diana: Yes.

Justin: You know, you keep your car serviced, you keep your vehicle the same way that you keep your device. Clean, clean, clean…all these things need to be cleaned. First and foremost, use a can of compressed air. Which, we love these, we sell them all the time. Keep a can of compressed air to remove dust from inside laptops and desktops.

Diana: Good old compressed air.

Justin: That’s right.

Diana: The next step, we have use a microfiber cloth and an alcohol based cleaner that evaporates to clean the case screen and keyboards of laptops and devices.

Justin: Absolutely.

Diana: Those are very important elements.

Justin: Yep, and I use those too, and I clean my laptop almost once a week. It just gets…and it also just gets, you know, fingerprinty and…

Diana: Yeah, it seems best to, if you clean your screen when you don’t actually have anything displayed on it. So maybe when your computer’s off.

Justin: Right, sure.

Diana: You can see all the fingerprints, and the dust, and the particles.

Justin: Absolutely.

Diana: And, you know, if you have a dog or cat, there might be nose art on it.

Justin: Oh, nose art!

Diana: [LAUGHS].

Justin: [LAUGHS] That’s true.

Diana: I’m sure there are people out there right now…

Justin: Who know exactly what…

Diana: …totally relating.

Justin: Yep, absolutely.

Diana: [LAUGHS]

Justin: So when cleaning out a laptop with a can of compressed air, it’s best if you are outdoors to ensure you don’t blow dust inside.

Diana: Yeah, I mean why would you want that inside. Just move it from one place to another.

Justin: Absolutely, so you use the straw provided on that can of compressed air and blow into the air vent on the side of the laptop, and this should blow out all of the dust.

Diana: Yeah, so if there…if you are able to take any laptops, you could take outside easily. The desktop might…you might need to get a little assistance with that.

Justin: Right.

Diana: But, you know, if you do it intermittently that’s good.

Justin: Absolutely, when you’re cleaning screens, you know, and other various items, you should try to be as careful as possible. Don’t put a lot of pressure on the screen, don’t push down really hard, always use actual screen cleaner on LCD screens.

Diana: Right, don’t just get out the Windex.

Justin: Yeah, do not get out the Windex. That’s true. And obviously don’t use an abrasive cleaner or anything like that. That’s a big no no. And use that microfiber cloth. Just spray the cleaner onto the cloth and gently wipe down the screen until it’s clean.

Diana: Right, and that was another important tip you just mentioned. Spray the cleaner onto the cloth.

Justin: On the cloth, right. And then keyboards and cases you can be a little more vigorous with. Which, you know, my case gets pretty dirty, so yeah, I kind of scrub it, but I still just use that microfiber cloth and that cleaner. It works beautifully.

Diana: It does, it does.

Justin: Looks like new then. Excellent! So there’s your Tuesday Tech Tip. Until next time…

Diana: Take care.

Justin: Tech Table was brought to you by MPA of Bloomfield, Iowa, and God’s Country Radio. You can visit us online at askmpa.com.
